Dance Cover Showcase: Mirage+
Could you tell us who you are, where you’re from and why you have chosen this dance cover as your showcase?
Hello!! We are a K-pop cover Duo: Mirage+. We have chosen our rendition of “How You Like That by BLACKPINK“, because we had loads of fun sorting out costumes for this cover and this dance really showcases our dance style.
(interview continues after the dance cover)
So how long did you have to study the choreography?
We have a very different approach when studying choreography. We like to mainly focus on facial expression and the general narrative that the song encompasses.
How long does it normally take for you to memorize the choreography?
We are actually in professional dance training ourselves, therefore memorizing the choreography doesn’t take that long. However, we take pride in making our own movements, so fine-tuning those take more time, around 2 hours usually.
What was the most difficult part of the choreography?
The most difficult part for us would just be the fact we are both wearing a mask. However, in terms of the choreography, the hardest section would definitely be the dance break, our knees were not happy the next day (2:48- 2:56)
Were you surprised that the choreography was easy / difficult and why?
It was easy to do, but hard to execute since we really wanted to highlight the performative aspects of Kiel Tutins choreography even though we are wearing a mask.
How did you come up with your outfit?
We were very much inspired by Jeanie’s modernized Hanbok, therefore we took our time from finding a suitable outfit to tailoring it to resemble the original piece.
Are there hidden bloopers / secrets in your dance covers?
Our secret is just to have fun we dance, but this often leads to interesting funny slip up and moments. All of which can be seen in our blooper video:
If you could give one positive message / advice to anyone out there who loves to do K-pop dance covers, what would it be?
Since K-pop is such a massive phenomenon, it is moving to see people find their identity in a safe diverse community.
And last but not least: If you could give a shout out to another K-pop dancer, because people need to see their showcase. Who would you like to give a shoutout to and why?
Since we are still quite new to the social platform as a K-pop cover channel/ account, it would be hard to choose just one person to give a shoutout to, since all of them are inspiring in their own way. We hope to grow our channel to become an inspiration ourselves.
